I just wanted to make anyone that might not know yet aware that Larry Weiler, #77 from our hockey team, was in a serious car accident Friday 9/5/08 between 11-12PM and was lifelined to Hershey where he is currently. From what I understand, his feet were almost severed but were still attached by the skin. Last I heard, the doctors were attempting to reattach the feet and hoping that the bones would take. Larry also had his ruptured spleen removed.
Larry's wife and son, who were also in the accident, are okay.
Please pray for Larry that he would be able to recover well as well as for his family as they deal with this.
If anyone has any updates or corrections, please use this thread to keep us informed.

HERE IS AN UPDATE THAT WAS SENT OUT ABOUT LARRY FROM HIS FAMILY Dear Family, This is now the 6th day that we have been to Hershey Medical to see Larry. he has been sedated and no one has talked to him since the accident. He now has metal braces with one screw into his shin, and one screw into the top of his foot, and a screw on either side of his foot. Tomorrow (Friday)he goes for skin graft surgery for one foot and on Monday he goes for the other foot. Larry is still fighting a fever. He will not be able to put any weight on his feet for three months and then will need extensive thearpy to get movement back in his feet. Thanks for you prayers and continue to pray! Here is the latest on Larry - 9/16/08
Dear family We are on the way home from HMC on the 9th day since the accident. Larry is still on the breathing machine and don't know when it will be removed. He seems to be awake a little more. He can answer questions by shaking his head! But he is still pretty sleepy. He has a good pulse in both feet and he wiggled his toes for us!! His surgery with the plastic surgeon is scheduled for Wednesday at 8 am. It could take about 8 hours. They will remove some muscle from his shoulder and some skin from his thigh, to fix his one foot. He is pretty restless in his bed and he got his hands tied down. Do we remember to ask God for traveling mercies and thank him at the close of each day? Thanks for your prayers and continue to pray for Larry. Eugene and family

its tuesday evening and my wife and i just returned home from our visit to see our injured teamate and friend. we were able to talk to larry for a few minutes. he was able to look at us and move his hands. at one point i was talking to him about hockey and he bent his knee and started to lift his leg. we got him to lay his leg flat again and coxed him to relax. he seemed very sleepy and often closed his eyes for a few moments. he now has metal rods on the out side of his legs with pins holding his feet in place so his wounds are exposed. he looks much better than when we last saw him a week ago. our thoughts and prayers are with you Larry

Hi Kevin and I were in to see Larry last night at HMC. He is on a slow road to recovery. They are trying to wean him off the breathing machine They had him on a technique called piggyback. He would initiate the breath and the machine would finish it for him. They did that on sat and they tried it on Sunday but he was too tired. He "says" he is ready to get out of there and go back to work and go play hockey. He has skin grafting today on the the one foot and will have the other done next week. We hope he will soon be totally awake and can talk. Im sure he would like visitors once he feeling better and out of intensive care. Thanx for your concern and keep him in your prayers. See-ye Kevin and Janell & Javon

Here is an email that I received 9/18/08 at 9:30 PM from Larry's Aunt.
What a wonderful God we serve! Larry is now breathing on his own! He can talk, but it doesn't sound like Larry. It also hurts him to talk.He also doesn't have his neck brace. They are also feeding him FOOD. And he can drink water by himself. His left foot is very swollen.(the one they did surgery on). The beginning of next week they plan to do the other foot. (Mon or Tue) Daddy (Eugene) asked Larry if he knows what day it is? Larry said,"Saturday." The accident happened late Friday night. It will soon be Two weeks since the accident. He also said he remembers being in the helicopter, and he knew his feet were hurt bad. Today for some time they didn't let anyone in to see Larry so he could rest, he was very tired. He has a long road ahead of him, he will still need our prayers as he faces each day.

Hello Everyone. This is Becky Weiler, Larry's wife. Thank you all for your prayers and support!!!! Larry is doing very well and he says he doesn't really have any pain. That is amazing!! When you look at his feet you would think that it would hurt. Today it is 3 weeks since he would have came out of surgery for the 1st time. It is so nice to be able to talk to him!!!!! We are hoping to leave here on monday September 29,2008. They told Larry the other day about keeping him over the weekend yet. He is not hooked up to iv or heart monitors so hopefully monday we will leave here and move in with his parents,at least for a little while. He seems to still have his humor in him. I just hope he can keep his spirits up. If you get a chance stop in and say hi. I'm sure he would be thrilled. Thank you all!!!!!!!!!! The Weiler's (all 3)

Hello again. What a wonderful God we serve!!!!!!!! Larry is doing well. We have moved in with his parents, and things still seem to be going well. We were back up to Hershey to see his plastic surgeon and they took all the staples out around his ankles. He had some pain as they were taking some of them out. He said everything still looks good. Starting monday 10/13/08 he can start putting his left foot down 3 times a day for 15 min at a time. After seeing Dr. Moyer we then went to see Dr. Goodspeed his orthopedic doc. He said everything looks good. They took some ex-rays of his ankles and he said they look good. He also said that they will probly take the ex-fixature off of his right foot he wasn't sure about the left one yet. Its all sounding GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!! Continue to pray for Larry and for the rest of us. Thanks for all your prayers and concern!! Come see us sometime. With Love, Larry, Becky n Trent Weiler

Hello hockeyfans, I didn't post anything for a long time. I hope this finds everyone doing well. Do we always remember to thank God for allowing us to have another day with our loved ones? We serve a mighty God. Larry is still doing well. We were at hershey to see his orthopedic doctor on 2/19/09 and we didn't really get the results we were hoping to hear. They were saying that they think he might have an infection in his left ankle the one that they put the muscle in. They wondered if he has any fevers or chills. The answer was no. They told us he needs to go for blood work to make sure his blood counts are ok. It wasn't very easy to hear that he might have something wrong, but that is pretty much the 1st time that they ever gave us news that was kinda devastating. The lady called me on monday 2/23/09 and said that his blood tests came back and they are all pretty much normal but 1 seems a little high. He now needs to go 4 an mri to check into it farther. They also saw on the x-ray a cyst or ? that wasn't there before. They think the best would be that Larry gets his ankle fused. That means another surgery and they would probably put a fixature back on similar to what he had for about 4 months. He would still be able to walk using crutches and with his other foot. They thought it would be on for about 4 months. The good news is,is that it shouldn't hurt after he can walk on it again. Please continue to pray that God would give Larry the strenght he needs to have another surgery and to be with a fixature again, and that God would help me to be strong for Larry. May Gods will be done with our lives!! Love, Becky Weiler
