After a disappointing early exit from the RHL playoffs and a long 7 game road trip to Canada, the Farmer Boy hockey team took to the ice once again to compete in the yearly Body Zone Hockey Classic. The back-to-back defending champions faced off against the Hawks, a team of wiley veterans . Farmer Boy opened up the scoring early with a goal by Derrick Martin. JR Weiler made the score 2-0 with a zinger of a wrist shot from 60 feet. Mitch Hertzler, Willie Weiler, and someone else that the writer cant remember also scored for Farmer Boy. The Hawks scored a couple of late goals but it was too little, too late as Farmer Boy won the opening game 5-2
The third period had is share of roughness as Farmer Boy defenseman, Duane Weiler, took on an army of Hawk players in a fist throwing frenzy. Duane and two of the best Hawk players were ejected from the game. The ref made the comment that none of the players were suspended since they punched pretty much like girls. No offense Duane. Fans should look forward to a possible rematch later in the playoff rounds and a chance for Duane to display some more roughness. There is already some talk that it could be a similar game in hype as the Canada/USA gold metal Olympic game. Fans are already starting to show where their loyalties lie with Farmer Boy hats, gloves, t-shirts and other merchandise. Hawk fans are heard doing their intimidating “SQUAWK” chant to rally there team .It should be a good tournament folks.
